Missiles, fireworks and bricks have been thrown at emergency crews in "planned violent disorder", police have said.

Northumbria Police said crews had been subjected to violent attacks after responding to reports of anti-social behaviour in the Waterville Road area of Meadow Well in North Tyneside at about 21:00 GMT on Thursday.

The force said the disorder related to misinformation surrounding the future of a building, which was wrongly believed to be a House of Multi-occupancy (HMO). Police said a supermarket was planned for the site.

Officers said the behaviour was "completely unacceptable" and it was sharing the information to stop speculation which "may lead to further disorder".
