A pedestrian in his 40s has died after being hit by a car on a major A-road that serves Bristol Airport.

Avon and Somerset Police said officers were called to a collision involving a pedestrian and a white Vauxhall Astra on the A38 in Brent Knoll at 05:20 BST.

Police said the pedestrian died at the scene and his family have been informed.

The A38 was closed between the Fox and Goose Pub and the B3140 roundabout earlier and has since reopened.

Earlier, Bristol Airport advised people to use alternative routes and allow extra travel time.

Police said the driver of the car remained at the scene and assisted officers with their enquiries.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is urged to contact police.
