Tip opening hours to extend as council takes over
GoogleThe opening hours for Rotherham's household waste recycling centres will be extended from the end of October, according to the council.
The four sites will open for an extra 90 minutes per day through the winter months as Rotherham Council takes back the day-to-day running of the four locations.
The recycling centres in Greasbrough, Bramley, Rawmarsh and North Anston were previously operated through an outsourced contract.
"As we insource the much-used household waste sites, we are able to increase the overall opening hours across the year and hope this will be a welcome change," said councillor Lynda Marshall, cabinet member for waste services, leisure and green spaces.
FCC Environment held the contract until it expired in 2023, the authority said, with HW Martin Waste then appointed to run the sites for three years.
The management will return to the council from 28 October, with HW Martin Waste continuing to provide the haulage function.
The sites at Car Hill, Lidget Lane, Warren Vale and Magilla will open daily from 09:30 to 17:00, including bank holidays.
They will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.
The council said that taking back the management of the recycling centres will give the authority greater flexibility over the operation of the sites.
Marshall added: "We have also committed to make some further changes, improving staffing and providing an on-site re-use facility so good products don't go to waste and we will be introducing these further improvements over the coming months."
