A teenage girl has suffered "life-threatening injuries" after she was struck by a car in Rotherham, police said.

Emergency services were called to Bawtry Road at about 08:10 BST on Thursday following reports a black Nissan Micra had collided with a pedestrian.

The girl was taken to hospital, South Yorkshire Police said, with the driver of the Nissan remaining at the scene to assist officers with their enquiries.

Brinsworth Road and Bawtry Road remain closed, officers said, with emergency services still at the scene.

The force appealed for witnesses and those with relevant dashcam footage to make contact.
