Former crime unit boss to head gambling commission
Jersey Gambling CommissionThe former head of the crime unit has taken over the lead of Jersey's gambling commission.
Barry Faudemer, the former head of the joint Police and Customs Financial Crimes Unit and an FBI Academy graduate, has been appointed as the chairman of the Jersey Gambling Commission board for a four-year term.
The commission said Faudemer brought extensive experience in regulation, financial crime prevention and law enforcement.
In its recent annual report, the Jersey Gambling Commission reported it found the capacity of health services to deal with problem gambling was "severely under strain".
Faudemer has also been the former executive director of the Jersey Financial Services Commission and helped develop Jersey's Financial Services Law (1998) and the Proceeds of Crime Law (1999).
Prior to his role with the financial services commission, Faudemer served in the police for 27 years and studied "money laundering typologies and how terrorists fund their activities across the globe" at the FBI Academy in America.
He also founded the Jersey Fraud Prevention Forum and produced the island's Money Laundering Typology document on behalf of the government.
