A West Yorkshire Police officer has been found not guilty of non-recent child sex offences.

After a trial at Leeds Crown Court, PC Marcus Newbold, 30, was acquitted of seven charges, including raping a girl under 13 and causing a child to engage in sexual activity.

Newbold, from Normanton, was working in the Kirklees District at the time of his suspension, after joining West Yorkshire Police in January 2021.

The charges related to one alleged victim and were claimed to have taken place between 2007 and 2011.

The offences were reported to the police in September 2022, and Newbold has been suspended from duty since that time.

Police said his case would now be reviewed following the conclusion of the court proceedings.
