Bomb squad destroys five suspect items on beach
Millom Coastguard Rescue TeamFive suspected explosive items have been destroyed by a bomb squad.
Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team said someone spotted a "concerning object" while at Drigg beach on Friday at about 12:00 BST, which triggered a response from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit.
Due to tide times, the EOD team carried out a controlled explosion two days later on Sunday at 14:20.
A number of artillery shells and mortar were found on the same beach at different times during 2025.
Millom Coastguard Rescue Team provided a safety cordon after the person who saw the items gave a "precise location" using the tool what3words.
