Police were called to Hanley on Wednesday evening

A second teenage boy has been arrested after a stabbing in Stoke-on-Trent, police say.

Officers were called to Upper Market Square in Hanley at 17:50 BST on Tuesday to a report that a teenage boy had been stabbed in a fight involving a group of young people.

On the same day, a 17-year-old boy, from Stafford, was taken to hospital and arrested on suspicion of possession of a bladed article in a public place and affray. He remained in hospital on Thursday.

Police have since arrested a 16-year-old boy from the city on Wednesday on suspicion of affray and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

He was questioned in custody and then released on conditional bail while inquiries continued.

"I'd like to reassure the local community that we have made good progress with our inquiries" said Det Insp Rebecca Collier.

"We are no longer looking for anyone else in connection with the investigation."

She added: "I'd like to thank everyone who has been in touch and spoken to officers over the last few days.

"If you haven't spoken to us already and you still have information that could help, we still want to hear from you."
