Underground heat pipes to be laid beneath streets
Hull City CouncilWork to install pipes as part of a low-carbon underground heating system in Hull will begin this week.
Hull City Council said the pipework will be fitted along a small section of Lowgate, Guildhall Road and Wilberforce Drive between 9 September and 11 October.
The Hull District Heat Network project (HDHN) will transfer heat generated from waste from an energy centre on Trippett Street to buildings across the city.
Chris Jackson, from the council, said the works were necessary to deliver the project, which he said would provide "long-term benefits".
The council said traffic will be diverted northbound via Alfred Gelder Street and George Street or southbound via Freetown Way, North Bridge, Great Union Street and Drypool Bridge.
The authority said the Lowgate car park will be closed for up to eight weeks.
Jackson said: "We recognise that this may cause disruption for those travelling through the city centre and are working closely with our partners to minimise the impact wherever possible."
The council said the work would be restricted between 07:30 and 17:00 BST Monday to Friday.
The authority said the works were dependent on the weather, so the dates could change and some overnight or weekend work could be required.
