Battery left on charge leads to bedroom blaze

Holidaymakers returned home to discover there had been a fire in their bedroom caused by a vacuum cleaner left on charge.

Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service released footage of the damaged room, and the remains of the device, following the incident in Peterborough.

Despite the severity of the blaze, the flames had not spread to the rest of the house as the door was closed.

The service has warned people to switch off all devices before leaving their homes, and to keep all internal doors shut.
