Owls

Up to 60 barn owl chicks have hatched in the past year

North East and Cumbria photographers share their images of tawny, short-eared, barn and little owls.

Ten chicks have been successfully reared by two breeding pairs at secret sites across Fermanagh.

A boat about 70 miles (113km) off the east coast of England had an unexpected visit from a tired owl.

"It's very unusual... barn owls shouldn't be 70 miles off Newcastle," a wildlife rescuer says.

Wildlife rescue centres in England and Wales say they are struggling to cope.

The owl was carefully cut free by two officers in Avon, Ohio and later flew away unharmed.
