John Bishop cancels shows after motorbike accident with Tim Peake

Comedian John Bishop has cancelled upcoming events after breaking his ankle while riding a motorbike with astronaut Tim Peake.

Bishop, from Liverpool, shared on social media he had suffered the ankle injury on 30 August, and his foot was "looking a bit fat" and "the bruising is out".

His cancelled shows include a live comedy gig at Somerset County Cricket Club's ground in Taunton, Somerset, and he will no longer be taking part in Sir Chris Hoy's Tour de 4 charity bike ride in Glasgow.

Bishop said: "I went out for a motorbike ride with Tim Peake, who's a brilliant lad and a great cyclist. I learnt a lesson today. Astronauts are better motorcyclists than comedians."

He said on Thursday on Instagram he was seeing a specialist this weekend for a "clearer view on how it's going to heal".

Bishop was due to star in a show at the cricket club's grounds in Taunton on 11 September alonside comedians Justin Moorhouse and Sally-Anne Hayward.

Jamie Cox, Somerset County Cricket Club's chief executive, said everyone who bought tickets would be offered full refunds.

"Obviously, it's disappointing to be making this announcement, but John's wellbeing has to be the main concern, and he must follow the medical advice he has been given," Cox said.

"We apologise for any disappointment caused by these circumstances, which are entirely beyond our control.

"We would like to wish John a speedy recovery and hope to see him back on stage again very soon."
