Candidates standing for Douglas South

Five candidates have announced they will be standing in the general election for the Douglas South constituency.

Sitting between Douglas Central and Middle, Douglas South is on the outer edge of the capital.

The National Sports Centre and national stadium – The Bowl – both stand within the boundary, as well as the Douglas City Golf Club.

It is also home to the island's main power station, located on Pulrose Road, which with a gas turbine flu stack measuring 246ft (75m) is one of the tallest structures on the island.

The area includes large local authority housing estates at Pulrose, Anagh Coar and Spring Valley, as well as residential developments at Farmhill and Ballaughton.

It also shares one of the busiest junctions on the island on its border with Douglas Central – Quarterbridge Roundabout – which feeds traffic travelling from the south and west into the capital.

Some 4,938 of the 6,579 people recorded as living in the constituency by the electoral commission in 2023 are registered to vote in Douglas South, as of the figures recorded in October last year.
