Boy's parkrun feat inspired by ambulance training
WBAAA schoolboy is taking on a year-long parkrun fundraising challenge after being inspired by lifesaving training.
Harrison, 9, from Trowbridge, set himself the goal of completing one run every month during 2026, covering a total of 60km (37 miles) to raise money for Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance (WBAA).
The idea came after Harrison's class was visited by one of the charity's specialist trainers, who taught the children how to respond in medical emergencies.
He has so far completed eight parkruns across Wiltshire and Bath since January, and is taking part in the Chippenham event on Saturday ahead of Air Ambulance Week, which starts on Monday.
Harrison said he was very excited to support the charity. He has so far raised £483 and hopes to double his original target of £250.
"This challenge is really important to me, and I'm really enjoying it," he said.
"It's been brilliant to visit lots of different parkruns and really challenge myself and my running too."
WBAAThe training, known as Aware+, is delivered in communities and schools, giving people the knowledge and confidence to act in a medical emergency before an ambulance arrives.
Aware+ trainer, Alex Winchcombe, said she was delighted that Harrison had felt inspired by the session.
"Committing to run parkruns across the year is an incredible achievement for someone so young," she said.
Harrison's dad, Anthony, said he was proud of what his son had already achieved, especially in a variety of weather conditions.
"He's run in heat, puddles as deep as his knees and all sorts of different terrain, not always finding it easy but always with a positive attitude and recognising the importance of why he is fundraising," he said.
