Aberdeenshire bridge damaged in vehicle collision
Fubar NewsAn Aberdeenshire road bridge has been damaged after a vehicle collided with the parapet.
Aberdeenshire Council said a 39ft (12m) section of the A-listed Banff Bridge had been "destroyed".
Further inspection work will be undertaken over the coming days to confirm the full extent of the damage.
The local authority said it was satisfied the bridge could remain open safely with temporary protection measures in place.
The measures include a 20mph speed limit and additional signage.
After the incident concrete barriers were installed by the council to "maintain public safety and to minimise disruption to traffic flow".
Investigations will also assess the impact of falling masonry on recently finished protection work at the bridge.
Aberdeenshire Council said further safety measures would be put in place if required to manage traffic flow.
A spokesperson added: "The upstream footway has also been closed to pedestrians as the temporary barriers prevent pedestrian access."
