Netflix has confirmed the lead stars of the coming-of-age sitcom are set to reprise their roles for The Inbetweeners 3

Ooh, sequel friend! A new Inbetweeners movie is officially in the works, Netflix has confirmed.

The original cast of Simon Bird, James Buckley, Blake Harrison and Joe Thomas will reprise their roles for the feature film, with production starting on Monday.

The Inbetweeners 3 will follow on the story of their characters, Will McKenzie, Jay Cartwright, Neil Sutherland and Simon Cooper.

They originally starred in three seasons of the popular coming-of-age sitcom, which aired on E4 between 2008 and 2010.

It followed their trials and misadventures as suburban teenagers at the fictional Rudge Park Comprehensive.

The show has gained new fans over the years due to some of its best bits finding new life on social media, as well as through the film sequels.

The third instalment follows two sequels backed by Film4, which were released in 2011 and 2014.

Alongside the announcement, Netflix released a teaser video which showed Will, Simon, Neil and Jay return to their iconic yellow Fiat.

The friend group all get into the tiny car but Simon struggles to start the engine.

After some encouragement, it gets going and they drive out of what looks like a storage unit.

Production kicks off after months of speculation that there would be another film, but beyond the lead characters returning, the rest of the cast is yet to be confirmed.

Fans will be wondering if English actress Emily Atack will return in her role as Charlotte Hinchcliffe, or if Emily Head will come back as Carli D'Amato.

However, Netflix has announced The Inbetweeners creators, Damon Beesley and Iain Morris, will return to write and direct the film.

Beesley and Morris said it has been "super fun" hanging out with friends again.

"We're going to work hard every week to ensure there are no problemos making this new film for humans," they added.
