Investigation into patient deaths closed by police

A police investigation into Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust following the death of three patients has been closed by police due to "insufficient evidence".

Leicestershire Police said in May 2025 it had launched a corporate manslaughter and gross negligence manslaughter investigation into the trust in connection with three deaths between September 2020 and July 2021.

The Local Democracy Reporting Service previously said one of the deaths was believed to relate to a patient absconding from Bradgate mental health unit at Glenfield Hospital.

Officers said no charges had been brought and the families of the three unnamed patients had been informed.

In a statement, the force said: "Following the deaths of three people between September 2020 and July 2021, Leicestershire Police investigated offences relating to corporate manslaughter and gross negligence manslaughter.

"In March this year, it was determined that the investigation would be closed and filed due to insufficient evidence. No charges have been made.

"The families of the three people have been informed."

A spokesperson for the trust said: "We extend our thoughts to the families of those involved, but we have nothing further to add to the police statement."
