Police say three people were injured in the incident

Specialist investigators are examining how two children and a woman came to be injured while on a fairground ride in South Yorkshire.

The three people, aged 11, 13 and 21, were involved in the incident at Maltby Crags Fair in Rotherham at about 18:50 BST on Friday.

Police said the two children were taken to Sheffield Children's Hospital where they remained in a stable condition, and the woman was treated for minor injuries.

The Health and Safety Executive said inspectors had visited the site and there would be an investigation to establish what happened.

A spokesperson said: "We appreciate the concern around this incident and are working with the relevant authorities.

"Our thoughts are with anyone affected by this incident."

Update 15 September: This article originally included a photograph which showed police vehicles parked beside a fairground ride at Maltby Crags Fair after the incident. As this risked giving the impression that this was the ride involved, when in fact the story concerns another ride, we have replaced the photo.
