How will Bath's new parking charges impact you?
BanesNew parking measures, including charges based on vehicle size, will come into force in Bath on Tuesday.
Bath and North East Somerset Council (Banes) began considering the changes in May and said they will now be implemented following public consultation and feedback from residents.
The council said it hoped that higher costs for larger vehicles would encourage people to use public transport or opt for smaller cars with lower emissions.
However, the new rules for larger vehicles are just one of the changes being introduced, so here is all you need to know about the new measures.
What are the changes?
All on-street parking permits are going up by 20% and owners of larger vehicles like SUVs and vans will have to pay a further surcharge.
While about 9,500 permit holders will be subject to an increase, owners of smaller vehicles could also get a discount on their parking permits.
The council has said that visitor permits for Resident Parking Zones will also be subject to 'phased increases' and parking restrictions will be introduced to part of Weston Road.
Some users of the city's three park and ride services will also see increases although plans to extend charges at Bath Hill East car park in Keynsham to include Saturdays have been dropped.
BanesHow much are charges going up by?
The charges related to size will vary depending on the amount of square metres of space covered.
For example, a person getting their first permit for a Smart car will see an annual discount of £20, whereas the owner of a Nissan Micra will see a discount of £10.
Owners of cars like a Ford Focus Zetec or a BMW X1 would see an increase of between £16 and £18 and owners of large vans like a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 319 CDI Premium will see an increase of £112.08.
These charges only apply to people applying for their first permit, individuals applying for a second one will see even larger increases.
Visitor parking permits will mostly go up by about £5 per year until 2028.
The charges on Weston Road will start from £2 for two hours, with a maximum stay of four hours costing as much as £7.80.
Those parking at the park and rides for over three hours but not using the bus service will see a parking charge increase of £1.

Why is this happening?
Bath has limited road space and the charges are intended to help make the most of what there is while improving safety and supporting sustainable travel.
"These changes will help us manage parking in a way that supports road safety, sustainability and fairness for all road users," said councillor Joel Hirst, cabinet member for sustainable transport strategy at Banes.
"Research shows that larger vehicles like SUVs pose a greater risk to pedestrians and cyclists in collisions, with children particularly vulnerable," he added.
"By introducing size-based permit charges, we are encouraging the use of smaller, safer and cleaner vehicles."
The changes follow three weeks of public consultation in which residents, businesses and stakeholders were asked for feedback.
How will I be charged?
Charges will be calculated automatically upon entering a vehicle's registration into the council's website during the application process.
The process is similar to how Banes collects revenue from its Clean Air Zone.
