Demolition road works to last 'few more weeks'
BBCDrivers using one of Nottingham's busiest roads are being asked for continued patience due to ongoing work to remove a city landmark.
Maid Marian Way, normally a dual carriageway, has become a single lane contraflow due to the demolition of the car park which straddles the route.
The works began on 28 September and have caused long queues on roads as well as delays for bus and tram services.
The project, which includes the clearance of former Nottingham College buildings on the other side of the road, is due to finish at the end of November and council leader Neghat Khan said: "I am grateful to everyone for their patience".
Khan added: "Once the NCP car park has been demolished, people in Nottingham will get a sense of the opportunity that exists at Broad Marsh."
Homes England, the government's housing and regeneration agency, plans to create about 1,000 new homes along with retail units on the site of the car park and former Broadmarsh shopping centre.

Jo Nugent, executive regional director for the Midlands at Homes England, said: "Whilst we know the demolition works have caused inconvenience for local people, this car park, if retained, would stand in way of progress. It is also beyond its lifespan and so a decision has been taken to take it down.
"Every section that comes down brings this site closer to being ready for the transformation of the city centre.
"When our developer partner joins us, they will find cleared land, a vision shaped by thousands of local people, and three public partners pulling in the same direction.
"We are asking the community to bear with us for a few more weeks as the demolition progresses, and completes, and we thank people in Nottingham for their patience."
