Speedo Mick has said he "will suffer" in freezing temperatures in his attempt to trek to Mount Everest base camp in his trademark swimming trunks.

Michael Cullen, from Liverpool, has raised more than £1m in fundraising challenges in his skimpy Everton outfit.

And now he said he was about to try for his "biggest challenge" in climbing to Everest base camp in Nepal later this month in -10C (14F) temperatures.

The Everton fan will then fly to Scotland for a 1,000 mile walk from John O'Groats to Lands End as well as climbing Britain's three highest mountains to raise a further £1m.

Speedo Mick told BBC Breakfast: "I am going to do Everest in my knickers.

"I do understand the risks - I always do. It will be a challenge to stay in my Speedos."

He said he does feel the cold and will "suffer but that is the challenge".

The celebrated fundraiser is due to fly to the Nepalese capital Kathmandu on 10 November.

He will then fly to Scotland to compete his walk to Cornwall as well as doing the Three Peaks Challenge.

The 61-year-old said: "This is my biggest challenge for sure.

"I call it... my four peaks challenge."

Asked what the reception would be to his swimming trunks in Nepal, Speedo Mick said: "Well, I reckon they'll be cool.

"I mean I walked to France, and the French were alright with me so I have a good feeling about the Nepalese."

Cullen, who was awarded Liverpool’s Citizen of Honour in May, has raised money for charities supporting mental health, disadvantaged young people and homelessness.
