Woman rescued after getting trapped in beach mud

Coastguard teams were called to Crosby Beach on Sunday afternoon

A woman had to be rescued after getting stuck in mud on a beach.

HM Crosby Coastguard and Wirral Coastguard Rescue Team were called to the incident at Crosby Beach on Merseyside at about 12:50 BST on Sunday.

They found the woman stuck knee-deep in the mud and unable to free herself.

The crew recovered the woman using specialist equipment and carried out a medical assessments to make sure the woman was not injured.

"Patches of mud on our beaches can be extremely dangerous, particularly with an incoming tide," the coastguard said.

"What may look like firm ground can quickly become soft and difficult to escape from.

"If you become stuck in mud, stay calm, avoid struggling and call for help.

"If you see someone else stuck, do not attempt to rescue them yourself, as you could also become stuck."
