A man has admitted trying to seriously injure a police officer who was hit by a car.

Jonathon Collingwood was initially charged with the attempted murder of an officer in Horden in August, but on Wednesday prosecutors at Teesside Crown Court accepted his guilty plea to attempting to intentionally cause grievous bodily harm.

Durham Police previously said a Cleveland Police officer suffered arm and leg injuries when he was struck by a car on 17 August while carrying out inquiries in their force area.

Collingwood, of St Bees Walk in Hartlepool, was remanded into custody with sentencing set for 7 January. He previously admitted dangerous driving.
