A man has been charged with murder after the body of a missing Sheffield man was found at a property in Barnsley, police have said.

South Yorkshire Police said Andrew Fowler, 60, of George Street, Barnsley, had been charged in connection with the death.

Officers began investigating the disappearance of a 62-year-old Sheffield man after receiving a missing person report at about 17:45 BST on Friday.

Later that evening, at about 22:15, emergency services were called to George Street in the Worsborough Bridge area, where the man's body was found. Fowler has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Barnsley Magistrates' Court on Monday.

As part of standard procedure, South Yorkshire Police said it had made a self-referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct because the man had previously been reported missing.

Three areas were cordoned off following the discovery of the body, including two locations on George Street and a section of the Trans Pennine Trail nearby.
