Women are being invited to join a monthly evening running group in Ashford led by female police officers.

The initiative, which has been organised by Kent Police's Ashford Community Safety Unit, aims to help women feel safer running after dark while creating a supportive community.

Organisers said officers would run alongside participants, "creating an opportunity to connect, exercise and promote personal safety in a positive and inclusive environment".

The event is open to all abilities, from beginners to experienced runners, and is planned to take place once a month throughout the winter. The first run takes place on Friday at Victoria Park.

Participants are asked to meet at the fountain at 18:15 BST before a warm-up at 18:30.

Runners will be able to choose between a 5km (three-mile) route and a shorter 2.5km (1.5-mile) option, the organisers said.

Participants have been asked to bring with them high-visibility clothing or accessories, a torch or running light and suitable running shoes.
