New multi-sport venue opens its doors
North East Lincolnshire CouncilA new multi-use sports facility which will offer some free access for people living in the community has opened.
PlayZone, which is located on Roval Drive in Immingham, is the third of its kind to be built in North East Lincolnshire in the past two years.
It includes a 30m by 20m (98ft by 66ft) pitch, basketball hoops, benches, goals, fencing and LED floodlighting to allow year-round use.
Councillor Bob Callison, portfolio holder for environment, culture and tourism said: "It's important that people have spaces to come to and use however they want – that freedom is essential in keeping people active. This is a great addition to the town and I've no doubt it'll be well used."
According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, the venue has been completed through a partnership between Immingham Town Council, North East Lincolnshire Council, the Football Foundation and the Football Association (FA).
North East Lincolnshire Council has encouraged people who wish to use the facility to use the online booking system to "ensure fairness and safety".
It added that groups could also book more formal sessions for a small fee.
The venue forms part of North East Lincolnshire Council's Move Together project, which aims to increase physical activity in the area.
The other two Playzone sites are located at Grant Thorold Park and Kent Street in Grimsby.
