Moment paedophile who travelled 200 miles to assault child tries to flee arrest

Samuel Hyde was messaging the victim for a week before travelling to meet her

This is the moment a fleeing paedophile carrying a knife who sexually assaulted a child was arrested by police.

Samuel Hyde, 35, who was already banned from speaking to children under 16 without supervision, travelled more than 200 miles (320km) from Lancashire to south Wales to assault his victim.

The girl, who had been receiving Hyde's messages for a week, managed to escape and call for help.

Hyde, from Lancashire, admitted assaulting a girl under 13 by touching on 30 June, engaging in sexual communication with a child, breaching a sexual harm prevention order, and possession of a knife in a public place.

On 29 October at Merthyr Crown Court, he was sentenced to four years in prison, and the time he would spend on licence was extended.

In November 2019, Hyde was made the subject to a sexual harm prevention order at Preston Crown Court, which prohibited him from talking to a child under 16 without supervision.
