A fire in the roof and stairwell at a block of flats on the Isle of Wight may have been started deliberately, police say.

Multiple calls were made to the fire service reporting the fire at about 13:00 BST on Saturday. Crews from six stations across the island were called to tackle the blaze.

The fire left the entrance, windows and stairwell charred and a section missing from the roof space. The fire service said all residents were safely accounted for.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said the cause was under investigation and asked anyone with information to come forward.
