Police appealed for witnesses after the crash near the village of Flaxby

A woman has died after a collision on the A59 in North Yorkshire, police have said.

The crash involved a black Vauxhall Corsa which was travelling towards Harrogate and took place at about 15:30 BST on Wednesday near Flaxby, according to North Yorkshire Police.

The woman, who had been driving the car, was pronounced dead at the scene, officers said, with the road remaining closed to allow for investigation work.

The force said it wanted to hear from witnesses or anyone who saw the Corsa in the moments leading up to the collision. Officers also appealed to the driver of a white HGV which had been travelling in the opposite direction at the time of the crash to get in contact.
