Five inflatable monsters on rooftops across Leicester city centre for a Halloween trail have been taken down temporarily due to windy weather.

BID Leicester confirmed five of the eight monsters - which were all on display on Wednesday - would be taking shelter over the weekend.

The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for wind covering large sections of England, including Leicester, on Friday, with gusts also forecast to reach more than 40mph (64.4km/h) on Saturday.

A spokesperson for BID Leicester said: "We're really sorry for the disruption, especially during our opening weekend and half-term, but keeping everyone safe has to come first."

The collection of large, brightly coloured monsters were installed as part of a Halloween trail, which visitors would be able to follow on an app, BID Leicester said.

It confirmed Tentacle Tina on the Clock Tower, Tentacle Terry at Highcross, Jazz Hands on the LCB Depot, Sick Jagger on the Jewry Wall and Groaner in Charles Street would be removed.

However, organisers said - weather permitting - Trevor Triclops in Newarke Street, Kevin on Leicester Cathedral, and Chomper on the Mattioli Woods building would stay out over the weekend.

"The good news is that Leicester Monsters continues until Halloween, so there'll still be plenty of time to meet our monstrous friends once the weather settles down," a BID Leicester spokesperson added.
