A footballer who is believed to have been murdered died from a head injury, a post-mortem examination has found.

Ezekiel Williams suffered serious injuries in an incident at about 02:00 GMT on Sunday in Midsummer Boulevard in Milton Keynes, and died in hospital on Monday.

The 26-year-old played for north-London team Hendon FC.

Two men from Luton, aged 21 and 28, have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in police custody. A third, aged 30 and from Luton, was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and has been released on bail.

Det Insp Rob Underhill, from Thames Valley Police, renewed the force's appeal for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

"We are continuing to support the family of Ezekiel, and our thoughts remain with them, and all of Ezekiel's close circle of friends," he said.

"It is clear from tributes that have been paid that he was a hugely respected and loved person, and we are determined to ascertain the circumstances around his death."

'Selfless displays'

Williams, a midfielder, joined Hendon FC in September and had played for several other clubs in the past, including Kettering Town and Marlow FC.

In a statement posted to X, Hendon FC, who play in the Isthmian League South Central Division, described Williams as a "humble, unassuming and generous individual with a razor-sharp wit".

The club said Williams "was beginning to carve a place for himself in midfield with a series of hard-working and selfless displays that summed him up as a person".
