Arrests after van found carrying fuel containers
North Yorkshire PoliceTwo men have been arrested after police found dozens of fuel containers in a van during a routine stop on the A1(M) in North Yorkshire.
A silver Mercedes Sprinter van was stopped at about 23:00 BST on Thursday near Catterick Garrison, North Yorkshire Police said.
Officers noticed a strong smell of fuel coming from the vehicle leading to the discovery of about 40 containers.
The driver was arrested on suspicion of driving while disqualified, and both men were arrested on suspicion of going equipped to steal. They currently remain in custody.
The force said in addition to the containers they also found piping and gloves.
Although the containers appeared to be empty, there was still a strong smell of fuel inside the rear of the van.
A force spokesperson said the van had been seized as part of the investigation.
