A new online tour which enables people to experience the beauty of an important conservation site has been launched.

East Devon's Pebblebed Heaths are the largest continuous expanse of lowland heathland in Devon, covering over 1,400 hectares of rare and protected habitat.

The virtual tour is designed by South East Devon Wildlife in collaboration with the RSPB, The Pebblebed Heaths Conservation Trust and the Devon Wildlife Trust.

It is hoped to act as a companion guide to help everyone plan visits, such as schools, holiday makers and community groups.

Warden Sama Euridge says the tour can help you identify the area's wildlife and nature

It also gives those with limited mobility the opportunity to check out accessible routes, information, and what the designated national landscape of East Devon has to offer in terms of unique views, nature, and wildlife.

Sama Euridge is a warden with South East Devon Wildlife and explained they were trying to create "a ranger in your pocket".

The VR tour would tell the user about where to go to see some of the area's incredible wildlife.

Euridge added it would help people "identify wildflowers or what birdsong they had just heard".

"Perhaps it may just simply tell you how to get around," she said.

The tour is free to use , and was funded by East Devon National Landscapes team.

Euridge said it could "never replace the experience of spending time in nature" but it would "enable people to come to the nature reserves and to have a more fulfilling experience".
