Oasis acoustic guitar sells for 'record' price
PropstoreAn acoustic guitar played by Noel Gallagher at Oasis's 1996 MTV Unplugged gig, and signed by him, has sold at auction for £226,800 setting a "world record".
Hertfordshire-based Propstore said it was the "highest price achieved at auction for an Oasis acoustic guitar".
It also sold a Yamaha C3 Grand Piano, for £81,900 which was used by Freddie Mercury to compose Crazy Little Thing Called Love. It was expected to sell for at least £200,000.
On the first day of its Music Live Auction on Thursday, the highest-selling lot was a notebook by the Queen frontman which contained handwritten working lyrics and notes from the Mr. Bad Guy recording sessions. It sold for £277,200.
Mark Hochman, the company's music specialist, said: "Setting a world record with Noel Gallagher's MTV Unplugged guitar is a fantastic result and a testament to the lasting connection fans have with Oasis.
"These results show how much collectors value pieces with a personal connection to the artists and their music."
PropstoreIn one day all items were sold for a combined total of £2.5m, including rare instruments, handwritten lyrics, stage items, and personal memorabilia.
The auction included lots from the collection of German Producer Reinhold Mack, who worked with Queen on several albums in the 1980s.
The sale of Mercury's notebook offered "an extraordinary glimpse into his songwriting, and seeing it fetch the day's highest price was another highlight", Hochman added.
PropstoreItems from the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, were also on offer from The Omer Bhatti Collection, a Norwegian rapper and dancer, who Jackson gifted a number of items of clothing to.
It included a black and gold military-style jacket, worn at multiple public appearances during the Dangerous and HIStory eras. The jacket sold for £226,800.
