'Emotional' world title for Formula E team

James salutes Kidlington staff after Jaguar TCS claim Formula E Team World title

A motorsport team boss has spoken of the "emotional" and "proud" moment of winning the World Championship.

Jaguar TCS Racing drivers Mitch Evans and António Félix da Costa secured a combined four wins at the London E-Prix over the weekend which saw the Kidlington based team defended its Formula E teams' title .

It finished above nearest challengers Porsche by 17 points for a second teams' world championship win in the GEN3 era, where cars deliver up to 350kW of power, and a top speed of 320km/h (199mph).

Team principal Ian James said the fans had been "the biggest winners out of this one because to see racing of the quality, that is something else".

The team scored 288 points to secure the title, which included four race wins and ten podiums at the end of what James described as "quite a tough season".

"The blood, sweat and tears that everybody's been putting into this for years to get to this point - I'm incredibly proud of all of that effort," James said.

"We had a social media post go out on Saturday night, which just had one word on it - it was 'believe', and I think that summed it up really nicely."

Evans went into the final weekend in London with a chance of winning the drivers' championship title but lost by nine points to Porsche's Pascal Wehrlein, finishing third overall on 160 points.

In his final race for Jaguar after a decade of success with the team, he will depart later in the year as the most successful driver in Jaguar's history and also the most successful driver in Formula E to date, with 16 wins.

James said the New Zealand driver "richly deserved" the title but added it "certainly wasn't for the want of trying".

"I know he's going away with his head held high and all credit to him and Antonio for making sure that we secured that Team's World Championship."

Last season, Jaguar TCS Racing debuted its most advanced and efficient Formula E race car – the Jaguar I‑TYPE 7.

But the Kidlington-based team will soon be switching to GEN4 cars - a jump to 600kW of power and top speeds in excess of 200 mph.

James said other changes such as aero kits with new tyres meant "there's more that we can play with" and would bring "a significant step up in performance".

"Our drivers are often our harshest critics but when they're as excited as they are about a new generation, that I think speaks volumes."
