Reports of injuries after bus crashes into tree

A bus has crashed into a tree near West Bromwich bus station prompting an emergency service response.

The incident happened on New Street at around 09:00 BST on Saturday.

West Midlands Police said officers were at the scene alongside other emergency service colleagues and inquiries into the circumstances were ongoing.

West Midlands Fire Service said crews were called to reports of a single-vehicle road traffic collision at 09:04 and there had been reports of injuries. Police have appealed for anyone who witnessed the crash to contact them.

Witness James Davz, from West Bromwich, described the scene as "shocking".

"The bus has collided with a tree and it has split a seating area in half", he told the BBC.

National Express West Midlands said a number of bus services were being diverted in both directions via West Bromwich Ringway and Bull Street while emergency services are at the scene.

The BBC has contacted West Midlands Ambulance Service, National Express and Diamond Bus for comment.
