Man rescued after car crashes into house
David Jackman/Everything Epping ForestA man had to be rescued by firefighters from a house that partially collapsed after a car crashed into it.
Police officers, paramedics and firefighters were called to the property on Ninefields, in Waltham Abbey, Essex shortly before 23:00 BST on Friday.
Upon arrival, they found a silver Skoda, which had smoke coming out of it, that had smashed into the corner of a house, leaving it badly damaged.
Essex Police said a man was arrested on suspicion of being unfit through drink or drugs and taken to hospital for treatment.
Another man was safely removed from the rear of the property by fire crew using a ladder, while a woman was also taken to hospital for a "precautionary assessment."
David Jackman/Everything Epping ForestPhotos show the car lodged inside the home with a first-floor room and its contents – including boxes of books and bedding – having collapsed on to its roof.
The area is also shown to be covered in bricks which have fallen away from the property, which was cordoned off to the public after the crash.
A spokesperson for Essex Fire and Rescue Service said: "A car had driven into a house and smoke was issuing from the vehicle.
"No-one was trapped in the vehicle.
"Due to the damage to the front of the house, one resident was rescued via a ladder at the rear of the property.
"The scene was left with the police and resident."
