A number of overnight road closures are planned on the A47 around Norwich.

National Highways says works linked to its A47 Thickthorn improvement scheme will see lane closures and road restrictions between 20:00 and 06:00 BST, starting later.

On Saturday, one lane will be closed between Honingham roundabout and Wood Lane junction, with temporary traffic lights in operation. From Monday, the A47 westbound will be closed overnight between the A140 and Thickthorn junction.

Drivers have been urged to allow extra time for journeys and follow signed diversion routes.

Closures will continue throughout the week, with overnight lane restrictions and traffic management in place between the A47 and A11 Thickthorn roundabout from Tuesday to Friday. A signed diversion route will operate via the A1074 and A140.

Further disruption is expected later in the month to allow the delivery of large transformers for Orsted's Hornsea 3 Offshore Wind Farm project.

The transformers, weighing up to 350 tonnes and measuring up to 85m (278ft) in length, will be transported from the Port of King's Lynn to Swardeston under police escort at speeds of up to 12mph (19km/h).

A series of overnight closures will be needed while the convoy passes through the area, including the closure of the A47 eastbound entry slip road at the Thickthorn junction from 20:00 on 24 October until 06:00 on 26 October.

The A47 eastbound between Wood Lane Junction South roundabout and Longwater Interchange, including Norwich Road at Honingham roundabout in both directions, will also be closed during this period.

From 20:00 on 25 October until 06:00 the following morning, the A47 eastbound between Watton Road and Ipswich Road will close to allow traffic management measures to be reinstalled.
