Prison officer denies faking bomb threat at jail

A prison officer is due to stand trial accused of faking a bomb threat at HMP Moorland in Doncaster.

Chelsea Welch, 35, of Bilsdale Road, Scunthorpe, is charged with making a bomb hoax by communicating false information on 28 July 2025 and misconduct in public office.

She appeared at Sheffield Crown Court earlier and pleaded not guilty to both charges.

Welch was granted bail, with a trial due to start on 8 November 2027.

HMP Moorland is a Category C prison which holds about 1,000 men and young offenders.
