A tree surgeon was rescued by fire crews after getting stuck upside down while working on a tree in Leicestershire.

A spokesperson for Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said firefighters were called to Byron Street Extension in Loughborough at 15:57 BST on Wednesday.

Crews from Loughborough, Hinckley, Shepshed and Central fire stations attended. The service said initial crews put ladders up and held the tree surgeon in place, while they awaited the arrival of the service's technical rescue team.

From there, the surgeon was attached with a rescue strop, before a "rope system" was created to secure him and lower him to the ground, before he was taken to hospital.
