Buses are replacing trains throughout much of the network during the final three weekends of November

Passengers are being urged to plan ahead for their journeys this November while essential upgrades are made to the rail network.

Parts of the Great Eastern Main Line in Essex and Suffolk will be affected, as well as the branches to Harwich, Braintree and Sudbury.

The work - to improve reliability and prepare for major track renewals over Christmas - will also affect the lines to Southend Victoria and Southminster.

It means buses will replace trains over the course of three weekends.

Network Rail said the planned engineering work included:

• Replacing wheel timbers, general maintenance, vegetation management and tamping on the Harwich Town branch line

• Platform upgrade work at Bures railway station, part of a £1m investment

• Rerail and track maintenance at Marks Tey and Kelvedon

Martin Beable, chief operating officer for GBR Anglia, thanked passengers for their patience and said: "We're working together to minimise disruption wherever possible."

The final three weekends of November are affected by the engineering works, and Network Rail has provided more information on its website.

Passengers are advised to check information online before travelling.
