Hundreds protest over data centre plans
BBCHundreds of people have taken part in a protest against plans to build a new data centre because of concerns about its effects on the area.
Developers want to construct a complex on a 101 acre site between Caernarfon and Y Felinheli, in Gwynedd, saying it could create more than 900 jobs during construction and 200 permanent roles.
About 300 gathered for a rally in Caernarfon to highlight their opposition. More than 22,500 have signed a petition opposing the plan.
Canolfan Ddata Menai has previously said its proposals would "transform and revitalise the long-derelict" site as well as offer significant employment.
But opponent Ernest Dyson, who lives near the proposed site, said it was "basically the destruction of the most beautiful part of the Menai Strait".
"It is quite incredible it should come to this.
"The people of the area are custodians of it. That's what we must think of," he said.

Liz Saville Roberts, the Plaid Cymru MP for Dwyfor Meirionnydd, said: "We know that we need data centres but they have to be the right size, the right technology and in the right places.
"We need proper regulations and we need to make sure that communities benefit from this.
"We have too long a history in Wales of extractive industries that left nothing behind and have little benefit for communities.
"That mustn't happen again in the 21st Century."
Canolfan Ddata Menai said the project would ensure "continued use" of the surrounding area , including Lôn Las Menai cycleway and footpath, and would have "no undue impact" on the Menai Strait and an associated site of special scientific interest (SSSI).
