Street with 193 reports of fly-tipping in CCTV bid
Jasmine Lowe/BBC NewsPeople living in a street targeted by fly-tippers say the problem is making their lives miserable.
A report for Hull City Council showed there were 193 reported incidents of dumped rubbish on Reynoldson Street between January and June this year.
Heidi Wass, 58, said: "It's constant. I get stuff dumped outside my back gate, sometimes so much that I can't get out of the property – and that's my fire exit."
Councillors have now awarded more than £4,500 to help pay for CCTV on the street.
Jasmine Lowe/BBC NewsWass said: "It's all sorts of stuff. It's rubbish, old toys, mattresses and sofas. You name it, they dump it here because it just appears overnight."
The report, prepared for the council's cabinet sub-committee for crime prevention grants, states that there were 195 reports of fly-tipping in Reynoldson Street in 2025 – one in nine of all incidents in the Beverley and Newland Ward.
Wass said she had reported incidents to the council "several times" and believed CCTV cameras would act as a deterrent.
Fellow resident Yasmin Shears, 35, said the problem had "become much worse over the last two years".
"There's been a build-up of rubbish and it's just constant. It really doesn't surprise me there have been nearly 200 incidents this year."
Jasmine Lowe/BBC NewsAmber Croft, 24, who also lives on the street, agreed that CCTV would act as a deterrent.
She said: "It just seems to pop up everywhere. People leave rubbish on the side of the road.
"I don't know if they expect someone to come and clean it up, but there's constantly rubbish every day."
The council's neighbourhood team, which tackles local issues, hopes to install five CCTV cameras. Councillors were told the total cost of the project was likely to be £15,220.
The cabinet sub-committee for crime prevention grants awarded £4,566 following a meeting on Monday.
