A man has been seriously injured in a fall from a second-floor window at York Hospital, police have said.

It happened at about 17:35 BST on Saturday and the man received treatment at the hospital following the fall, according to North Yorkshire Police.

A force spokesperson said officers were present at the hospital at the time of the incident and there had been previous police contact with the man.

As a result, a mandatory referral had been made by North Yorkshire Police to the Independent Office for Police Conduct and a full investigation to establish the circumstances prior to the fall was under way, the spokesperson added.
