A hospital has introduced a third MRI body scanner as part of a £2m extension of its facilities.

The new machine at Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital in Grimsby will allow staff to see an extra 20 to 25 patients a day.

It replaces a mobile unit and is more accessible to patients with mobility issues, according to imaging manager Eve Leggott.

"Having all three scanners in one place is so much easier for patients. There's just one place to come and it's a much nicer environment to be in," she added.

"We can scan about 20 to 25 patients a day on each of our scanners, with each scan ranging from 20 minutes to an hour.

"Having this third MRI available means we can see about 60 patients a day and will help us to reduce our waiting lists."

The original building was opened in 2021 with two scanners and changing rooms and a recovery area.
