Candidates standing for Douglas East

Five candidates have announced they will be standing in the general election for the Douglas East constituency.

Douglas East is the home to buildings that make up the island's administrative, judicial and political heart – government offices, the courts of justice, and legislative buildings.

Traditionally a key player in the island's tourist industry, the constituency has an outermost boundary to the east along Douglas seafront taking in many of the capital's hotels and former boarding houses – many now functioning as B&Bs or converted into apartments.

The promenade is also home to the Douglas Bay Horse Tramway, which is marking its 150th anniversary in 2026.

Running parallel to the promenade is the capital's main shopping street, bookended by the Drumgold and Chester Street multi-storey car parks.

Along with the island's ferry port, the constituency takes in the Victoria, King Edward and Red piers as well as the Sea Terminal building.

The area is also host to North Quay, overlooking the Douglas Marina, where several significant developments are earmarked to take shape in the years to come, alongside parts of the previously rejuvenated quayside.

Its boundary with Douglas Central runs along Ridgeway Street, Bucks Road, Prospect Hill, Woodbourne Road and Ballaquayle Road.

Its border with Douglas North runs along Glencrutchery Road, taking in the TT grandstand and Noble's Park.

Of the constituency's population of 6,580 – as recorded by the electoral commission in 2023 – 4,938 were registered to vote as of October last year.
