Church, windmill, and Roman town on at-risk list
GoogleA Grade II listed mid-Victorian church has been added to Historic England's at risk register.
Holy Trinity Church in Bridlington, built in 1870, was added to the list due to problems including stone deterioration and poor condition of its church tower.
"There's an active community who use the church and want to keep it in good order," said Giles Proctor, an architect at Historic England.
Other East Yorkshire sites added to the Heritage at Risk Register for 2026 include Lelley Windmill in Elstronwick, St Mary Magdalene Church in Whitgift, and the Roman minor town identified as Derventio, near Stamford Bridge.
"It's raising the profile of the building and we hope that this will be possible to direct funding towards repair," Proctor said of Holy Trinity Church, and the other sites on the at-risk register.
Historic England Archive, Alun BullLelley Windmill, on Mill Lane in Elstronwick, is a corn windmill which was built in 1790.
Also a Grade II listed building, Historic England described it as "a striking and largely intact example of a late 18th Century windmill that retains much of its original external character".
It had "eventually become disused and fell into dereliction", the listing stated.
The buried remains of the Roman minor town, thought to have been called Derventio, lies on land to the south of Stamford Bridge.
Its listing stated "the extensive area of the remains indicates a heightened potential for the survival of a particularly wide range of Roman remains".
GoogleProctor said the sites listed include those that are at risk of loss, buildings in a declining condition, and archaeological sites and historic parks and gardens which are unmanaged.
He said: "It's not there to name and shame individuals. Most owners of historic buildings are doing their best to keep up with the problems.
"It's to help identify where it's best for us to focus our efforts so that any funding we can put in or time we can put into cases is directed to those most in need."
Historic England said it had spent £1.07m in grants in Yorkshire and the Humber for support and repairs to 11 sites on the Heritage at Risk Register during the most recent year, 2025/2026.
