A six-year-old boy has died following a car crash and a man has been arrested, police have said.

Officers were called to reports of an incident involving a vehicle and a child in Llanfairfechan, Conwy county, after 17:00 BST on Thursday, where the child was pronounced dead at the scene.

North Wales Police said a 39-year-old man had been arrested, while the boy's family was being supported by specially trained family liaison officers.

Flowers and soft toys have been left near the scene, paying tribute to the young boy.

On Thursday evening, a number of roads around Pen-Y-Bryn Road and Bryn Road were closed and people were asked to avoid the area.

Det Insp Tim Evans said: "Our thoughts are with the young boy's family and friends at this extremely difficult time."

An investigation into the circumstances of the crash was ongoing and police asked anyone who witnessed the incident to get in touch with them.
