Candidates standing for Douglas Central
MANX SCENESEight candidates have announced they will be standing in the general election for the Douglas Central constituency.
One of four constituencies in the Isle of Man's capital, which is the most densely populated area on the island.
Replacing the former Douglas West when the boundaries were honed for the 2016 election gave rise to the new name based on its more central location.
It covers part of the local authority area looked after by Douglas Council, which has a ward with the same name that mirrors the boundaries.
Bordering with the constituency of Middle on the Castletown Road, it takes in Kewaigue, the White Hoe, South Quay Industrial Estate, Douglas Head and the Battery Pier.
Its boundary to the east is marked by Woodbourne Road and Ballaquayle Road, it takes in the Hills Meadow Industrial Estate and part of the Middle River Industrial Estate at its junction with Douglas South.
The area is also home to the Bus Vannin depot at Banks Circus and the Douglas Steam Railway Station.
There are 5,321 registered voters as of October last year of the 6,319 people living in the constituency, as recorded by the electoral commission in 2023.
