Stories to make you smile from across Yorkshire
The Valley Project/BBC/Cave Rescue OrganisationEvery week in Yorkshire we cover uplifting and feel-good stories about people, places and animals across our region - and we like to shout about them.
This week, we're featuring a daring dog rescue, a cycling challenge inspired by Kevin Sinfield and the celebration of a well-known fundraising figure.
Children recycle Bradford's flower 'carpet'
The Valley ProjectChildren have made their own floral "carpet" using flowers left over from a giant artwork in Bradford city centre.
The vast display in Centenary Square was made from more than 330,000 dahlias, with the design celebrating the city's textile history and multicultural population.
After the artwork was taken away on Monday, some of the flowers were donated to The Valley Project in Holme Wood, with young people inspired to create their own smaller version.
Matt Edwards, chair of trustees at The Valley Project and a local Green Party councillor said the project was an example of "what happens when you give young people space to be creative on their terms".
Labrador Penny's waterfall rescue
Cave Rescue OrganisationA dog stranded on a narrow ledge at the bottom of a 40ft (12m) cliff next to a waterfall was safely retrieved thanks to the efforts of a volunteer-run rescue team.
Yorkshire Dales charity Cave Rescue Organisation (CRO) and North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue responded to the incident at the well-known Pecca Falls, in Ingleton, at the weekend.
Eight-year-old Labrador Penny had fallen into the river before becoming stuck after climbing up to a rocky outcrop 6.5ft (2m) above the water.
Using a rope system, a volunteer was lowered to the ledge to reach the dog before she was "hauled back up the gorge where she was reunited with her owners".
City walk of fame honour for fundraiser
BBC/Oli ConstableA pram-pushing fundraiser who has collected more than £1.2m for Macmillan Cancer Support has been honoured with a star on the Sheffield Legends Walk of Fame.
The plaque for John Burkhill, better known as the Man with the Pram, was unveiled outside Sheffield Town Hall.
Burkhill has spent decades raising money for charity following the deaths of his wife from breast cancer in 1992, and his daughter Karen, who died the previous year.
Speaking on Tuesday, Burkhill, who is known for his bright green wig and highly decorated pram, said he was "incredibly proud and humbled" by the recognition.
Sinfield inspires MND cycling challenge
Glen HartleyA Hull man is emulating Sir Kevin Sinfield's fundraising heroics by riding 170 miles over the hills of Yorkshire.
Glen Hartley and his friend Jon Fish aim to complete the challenge on Sunday for Andy's Man Club and the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association, a cause that Glen says is "very personal" to him because his father Paul has a form of the disease.
Last weekend, Glen and his dad ran four laps of Costello Stadium in Hull alongside Sir Kevin and other members of the MND community, where they also met former England football manager Sir Gareth Southgate.
Sir Kevin is due to finish his "7 in 7" ultra-marathons challenge at Old Trafford later and Glen says he will be "thinking of him while I'm tackling the hills between Sheffield and Leeds".
New life for dog rescued from squalid house
BBC/ Nathan TurveyA springer spaniel who was one of 84 dogs living in "squalid conditions" in a family home has been given a second chance at life.
Katy was discovered at a property in Doncaster in April last year, where animals covered in faeces and urine had been left to breed by themselves.
She has since been adopted by Wendy and Lindsay Cann, from Cowley, in North Yorkshire, who said she had "come along at the right time".
On her second day in her new home, Katy was "romping around the grass chasing the butterflies", Lindsay said, adding: "it didn't take her long to figure out that she was safe and she was home."
